FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. WHAT IS TNR?

TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Return. It is a nationally recognized process for helping to control and manage a feral cat colony and it is the process we use to care for the Texas Tech cats. In this process, we TRAP a cat found on campus, transport it to a local veterinarian to have it SPAYED/NEUTERED, and then we RETURN the cat to the same place it was found.

2. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE CAT AT THE VET?

After the cat arrives at the vet's office, the cat is given a comprehensive wellness exam prior to having surgery. If any health problems are discovered, the TFCC pays to have those treatments done. Past surgeries the TFCC has paid for include: amputations, jaw de-glove repair, and infections. After surgery, the cat is placed into recovery until it can be released.

3. DO YOU EVER CATCH FRIENDLY CATS?

All. The. Time. We sometimes catch friendly adults, but we usually capture kittens. When this happens, the TFCC work tirelessly to find a suitable foster for the cats so they remain friendly and can be adopted. For more information, please visit our Adoptions page!

4. HOW CAN I HELP?

DONATE: The TFCC primarily relies on donations from local community members. Just like any other organization, we always need monetary donations. However, we also appreciate receiving donations for items such as dry and wet cat food, towels, litter, cat toys, old coolers, puppy pads, storage bins, tupperware, pet taxis, towels, blankets, and so much more.

FOSTER: By fostering a cat, you ensure that the cat will remain friendly and trusting of humans so that, when the time comes, the cat can be adopted to a loving home. Fosters are a crucial part of our organization!

ADOPT: Adoption days are our favorite days! When you adopt a cat from us, you change the life of two animals! All of our adoptions go through the Humane Society of West Texas, so you can be sure that the kitty you are bringing home will come to you spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and healthy! As an added bonus, adopters receive a goody bag from the TFCC as a thank you gift for everything you do!

JOIN US: If you are a student at TTU and you want to be involved, join us on Tech Connect. You are always welcome to reach out to us with any questions you may have.

If you are interested in doing any of these things, please contact us!

5. DO YOU ASSIST WITH CATS THAT ARE FOUND OFF-CAMPUS?

Unfortunately, due to funding and liability issues, we are unable to assist with any cats that are located off-campus from Texas Tech University. We strongly encourage you to contact your city council representative explaining the need to implement a citywide TNR program for the City of Lubbock.
